4th of July Festivities

AUGUSTA: FOURTH OF JULY PARADE, 11 a.m., from Shaw’s Plaza along Western Avenue, Water Street and Cony Street to Augusta City Center. 626-2352. THE FOURTH AT THE FORT, traditional Independence Day observances, noon-4 p.m., Old Fort Western, Cony Street. 626-2385. FIREWORKS, 9:30 p.m., Waterfront Park. Part of Whatever Family Festival.

BAR HARBOR: INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE, 10 a.m. Main Street. FIREWORKS over Frenchmen’s Bay, 9 p.m., Town Pier.

BROOKS: Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5, residents will celebrate the 48TH ANNUAL BROOKS FIELD DAYS at Brooks Community Park.
Events on Thursday kick off with a 5-mile fun run at 8 a.m. The parade starts at 10 a.m. A slew of events, including horse pulling, canoe races, beano, horseshoe pitching, a chicken barbecue, arm wrestling, karaoke, weight lifting and music by The Storm are scheduled. Fireworks cap off the day at 10 p.m. Friday, July 5, is Kids Day. The popular Kids Pedal Tractor Pull begins at 10 a.m. Other Kids Events, which start at noon, include a watermelon seed-spitting contest, an obstacle course, a sack race, a water balloon toss, face painting, a coloring contest and a Jello-eating contest. Highlights for adults and kids include a cribbage tournament, a demolition derby, a pie-baking cookoff, a pig scramble and Wrestling Rampage. Admission each day is $5. BOOTHBAY REGION: OLD-FASHIONED CELEBRATION begins at 9 a.m. on the Boothbay town common, off Route 27. Festivities include an arts and crafts fair, games, and music by the Hallowell Band. At 8 p.m. spectators in Boothbay Harbor should turn their eyes toward the water, where an array of fireworks will close the day’s events.

BRISTOL: GRASSROOTS JULY 4TH parade kicks off at noon on Route 32 in Round Pond Village. After the parade The Round Pond Rangers will perform in the field behind King Ro Market. Lunch is available or bring a picnic. The Anchor Inn will have a barbecue followed by pie-eating contests.

CAMDEN: 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION WITH FIREWORKS, 9 p.m. downtown and at the public landing. FMI 207-236-4404. The Al Corey Big Band will perform for the Camden Rotary Club’s annual Independence Weekend fund-raising concert from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Camden Library amphitheater. In case of rain, the concert takes place at Camden Opera House.

DAMARISCOTTA: 3RD ANNUAL FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION & ART SHOW, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., downtown. Art show & sale, food, children’s activities, Damariscotta River cruises, live music; parade, 6 p.m.; fireworks, 9 p.m. Sponsored by Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce.

DRESDEN: FOURTH OF JULY PICNIC & CONCERT, noon to 4 p.m., Pownalborough Courthouse, Route 128. Civil War era music by 12th New Hampshire Regiment Serenade Band; courthouse tours.

FRANKFORT: FOURTH OF JULY PARADE begins at 9 a.m. Those in the parade are asked to line up on the Loggin Road between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m.

KINGS MILLS: FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Routes 218 and 194. Cake walk, parade at 10 a.m., auction at 11:30 a.m., canoe raffle at noon, games, food and other traditional fare. Sponsored by Kings Mills Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary.

NORTH HAVEN: ANNUAL PICNIC with races, games and mussel bake.

SEARSPORT: HOMETOWN HEROES, the celebration begins with an appearance by Zoe Zanidakis from Survivor, 9 a.m. to noon at the public boat landing where the Row Boat Races will be viewed. A giant auction takes place beginning at 10 a.m. at the Searsport United Methodist Church. Doors open at 9 a.m. There will be games for children, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, cold drinks and coffee and donuts. Items for sale include books and a white elephant table. Come and spend the day with the whole family. At 12:30 p.m. the parade lines up at Norris Avenue and Cross Street and goes up Steamboat Avenue starting at 1:30 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., a Searsport Fire Department muster will be held at Mosman Park. At 7 p.m., magician Bob Nixon will appear, followed at 8 p.m. by the band Repressed. Fireworks cap off the evening at 9 p.m.

SWANVILLE: FOURTH OF JULY BOAT PARADE will begins at noon from the Arthur Farnham public boat launching facility. It is open to all who wish to participate. This year’s theme is Show the Colors. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entrants. FIREWORKS Saturday, July 6, at 9:15 p.m. The fireworks will be launched from the north end of the lake.

THOMASTON: OLD-FASHIONED 4TH of July celebration, downtown. Parade (11 a.m.) and celebration, Main Street and behind business block. Pancake breakfast at 6 a.m., entertainment, chicken BBQ at noon, parade, children’s activities, fireworks (9:15 p.m.), crafts and more. FMI 207-596-7478.

VINALHAVEN: TAG DAY, town parking lot. Parade, booths and more.

WISCASSET: FOURTH OF JULY PARADE & ACTIVITIES, downtown & waterfront. Parade, 10 a.m.; Community Spirit Festival, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; live music, 4 to 8 p.m.; Waterfront Dance, 8 to 10:30 p.m.; fireworks, 9 p.m.
